What does it cost to move a pool table in Dubai?

Moving a billiard table in Dubai starts at AED 800, with the final price depending on distance and access. That is for a proper move - stripped down, transported, reassembled and re-levelled at the other end.

It sounds like a lot for moving one piece of furniture. Here is why it is not one piece of furniture.

A slate table is not moved, it is dismantled

TSports LT Industrial steel-frame billiard table

The playing bed of a full-size table is natural stone - three-piece 25mm slate on most tables, and three-piece 60mm marble on some higher-end models - bedded onto the frame, shimmed level, and with the seams filled. The cloth is stretched and fastened over the top of all of it.

That assembly only works because it was built in place. The stone is not structurally attached the way people assume - it sits, supported by the frame, held by its own considerable weight and by bolts that are not designed to carry it sideways.

Tip that table, drag it across a floor, or take it through a doorway on its side, and one of three things happens: a stone panel cracks, a seam shifts, or the frame racks out of square. Cracked slate or marble is not repairable. It is replaced. A 60mm marble bed also weighs roughly double a 25mm slate one, which makes access and manpower a bigger factor on those tables.

What a proper move actually involves

Billiard table being set up
  • Strip the table. Pockets off, rails unbolted and set aside, cloth removed from the bed.

  • Lift the slate. Each panel comes off individually and is carried flat, never on edge. This is the part that needs people who have done it before.

  • Break down the frame. Legs and frame come apart into transportable sections.

  • Transport. Slate travels flat and padded. Rails travel separately so the cushion rubber is not compressed or knocked.

  • Rebuild at the other end. Frame reassembled and squared, slate laid, shimmed and re-levelled, seams filled, cloth refitted and tensioned, rails re-bolted, pockets refitted, then a final level check.

That last step is the one that matters. A table that has been moved but not properly re-levelled will play worse in its new home than it did in the old one, and the customer usually blames the room.

What changes the price

  • Distance. Within one emirate is very different from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah.

  • Access at both ends. Ground floor with a wide door is straightforward. A first-floor majlis up a narrow staircase, or a building where the service lift is too small for slate panels, is not.

  • Table size. A 9ft table has more stone and more weight than an 8ft, and a marble-bed table is heavier again.

  • Whether the cloth is reused. Cloth that comes off cleanly can usually go back on. Cloth that is already worn should be replaced while the table is apart - see the next section.

  • Timing. Same-week and weekend jobs are harder to schedule.

Our billiard table relocation service starts at AED 800. Tell us both addresses and the floor at each end and we will give you a firm number rather than a range.

The one piece of advice that saves money

If the cloth is anywhere near due, recover it during the move. The table is already stripped and the rails are already off, which is most of the labour in a recover. Doing both at once is far cheaper than doing them six months apart.

Recovering costs AED 1,400 to AED 2,000 depending on the cloth grade. If your cloth has shiny patches at the break spot or in front of the pockets, this is the moment.

Why general movers are a risk

Villa movers in Dubai move a lot of furniture very competently. A slate billiard table is a different problem, and the failure mode is expensive and permanent.

The specific risks are: slate carried on edge, slate stacked on top of itself, rails thrown in with general load so the cushion rubber gets crushed, and reassembly by someone who has never levelled a table and does not own the level to do it. A quote that seems far below AED 800 usually means one or more of those corners is being cut.

Ask any mover two questions before booking: do you remove the slate individually, and do you re-level with an engineer's level at the destination? The answers tell you everything.

Moving it yourself

We would not recommend it, and not mainly because of the skill. A slate panel is heavy enough that dropping one is a serious injury, not just a broken table. If you are determined, at minimum: four people, slate carried flat and one panel at a time, everything padded, and a plan for re-levelling that does not begin with "we'll see how it looks".

We relocate slate and marble-bed billiard tables across Dubai and the UAE, including tables we did not sell. We do not work on MDF tables. Call or WhatsApp 055 918 4887 with both addresses and we will price it properly.
